Founded in 1947 by Margaret Saunders, Know Your Town (KYT) is a local, nonpartisan organization that seeks to acquaint townspeople with the resources South Hadley has to offer and the various issues and functions of town government. KYT works to assist in any way possible the progressive development of South Hadley. Fields of special interest include education, recreation, public health, mental health, town planning, registration and elections, and state legislation affecting our town.
Candidates’ Nights and issue forums are one of the major services provided by KYT. Held before local, state, and national elections to familiarize citizens with candidates and ballot questions, the events are also broadcast on local cable channel 15. In addition, Know Your Town has been instrumental in developing a Town Meeting Guide for Town Meeting members. Know Your Town also sponsors the Ann Battersby Scholarship, awarded annually to a promising local high school student. Scholarship donations are always welcome.
Events are held online or at locations throughout town, providing a unique forum for learning about community resources, businesses, and places of interest. KYT information and education programs are free of charge, and open to the public. Additional special events and social programs, such as our annual legislative review and progressive dinner, are available to members.
For more information about KYT, please see our membership page.
