Oct. 25 KYT Ballot Question Forum

Know Your Town will sponsor a forum on the questions that will on the ballot for the State Election on November 6, 2018.

The Forum will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, October 25th in the Town Hall Auditorium. KYT member Attorney Jodi Miller will serve as the Moderator for the program. The event is free of charge and the public is invited. Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to learn about the three state ballot questions and the fourth non-binding question that will be on the November ballot. Speakers will include:


QUESTION 1:  

A YES VOTE would limit the number of patients that could be assigned to one registered nurse in hospitals and certain other health care facilities.

Speaker:  Suzanne Love is a staff nurse in the emergency department at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, Greenfield.

A NO VOTE would make no change in current laws relative to patient-to-nurse limits.

Speaker:  Christine Schrauf, a nurse for 50 years, holds a doctoral degree in nursing  from Yale University.


QUESTION 2:  

A YES VOTE would create a citizens commission to advance an amendment to the United States Constitution to limit the influence of money in elections and establish that corporations do not have the same rights as human beings.

Speaker:  Janice Stone is the former Conservation Administrator for South Hadley, and a volunteer for People Govern, Not Money. Janice holds a from BA Smith College and a MS from UMass.

A NO VOTE would not create this commission.

KYT does not have a speaker for Vote No.


QUESTION 3:  

A YES VOTE would keep in place the current law, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender identity in places of public accommodation.

Speaker: Lorelei Erisis is a writer, performer, speaker and columnist for The Rainbow Times.

A NO VOTE would repeal this provision of the public accommodation law.

KYT does not have a speaker for Vote No.


QUESTION 4 (t
his question is non-binding):

Shall the State Representative from this district be instructed to vote for legislation to create a single-payer system of universal health care that would provide all Massachusetts resident with comprehensive health care coverage including the freedom to choose doctors and other health care professionals, facilities, and services, and that would eliminate the role of insurance companies in health care by creating a publicly administered insurance trust fund?

Speaker Vote Yes on 4:   Deborah Levenson is the co- convener of Western Mass. Medicare for All, a retired social worker and educator, a member of the MTA and an active community organizer.

KYT does not have a speaker for Vote No.
