10.17.19–Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Know Your Town will sponsor a free panel discussion on things we can do as individuals to reduce our carbon footprint. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. Come and learn how important you are in reducing the climate crisis. KYT has recruited a dynamic panel of speakers. The panel will answer questions from the audience after the presentation.

Small Steps You Can Take To Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Panel members include:

  • Dr. Stephen Frantz, a research pathobiologist, will address pesticide and chemical-free landscaping and gardening, and the dangers of glyphosate, a common weed killer.
  • Dorothy Caron will talk about pollinator friendly gardens.
  • Walter Mozgala, biologist and former professor at Holyoke Community College, will talk about invasive species and their detrimental effect on the environment and wildlife.
  • Michael Lamontagne, former Tree Warden in South Hadley, will discuss the important of small and large trees in carbon sequestration.
  • Selectboard member Bruce Forcier will discuss moving away from the current Green Bag solid waste disposal program to other options.
  • John Howard, an expert on solar energy, will discuss solar panels for the average home.
  • Diane Mulvaney will talk about a recent solar installation on her home.
  • Barbara Smith and Sandy Ward will discuss The Walking Bus for school aged students as a means of reducing air pollution and congestion at schools at drop off and pick up times.
