Help support planting and harvesting of fresh produce from our Community Garden for South Hadley’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry
It has been 10 years since a small community group began clearing and working a South Hadley Community Garden plot with the objective of growing fresh, seasonal vegetables to provide for our neighbors in need. From mid-May through October, volunteers ranging in age from 7 to 75 grow and share roughly 2000 (a ton!) of produce to help our Neighbors Helping Neighbors Food Pantry feed some 250 food insecure people and home-bound veterans. And despite the challenges, this work has continued in 2020 through the pandemic.
The Full Circle Pantry Garden depends on donated plants, seeds, and equipment, but cash is also needed to pay for water, repairs to the irrigation system, soil, and other materials needed to ensure a healthy harvest, This year, required equipment and packaging to meet pandemic standards created budget overruns of several hundred dollars, and additional funds will be needed to meet these requirements again in 2021. A ‘Seed Money’ campaign is underway through December 15th to raise money for these needs. All donations are tax deductible and will go to the project, whether the modest goal is exceeded or not reached.
