Running for local office in 2021

All voters registered to vote in South Hadley are eligible to run for town office and Town Meeting member. The 2021 Annual Town Election ballot will include two 3-year seats on the: Selectboard, School Committee, Planning Board, and the South Hadley Electric Light Department (SHELD) Board. A 3-year seat and two 1-year seats for the Board of Health will also be on the ballot.

To run for open offices in the Annual Town Election, candidates should request a PDF of the ‘Request for Nomination Papers’ online from the Town Clerk at https://www.southhadley.org/156/Clerk. Papers may be obtained starting January 4, 2021 and must be submitted by February 23, 2021 at 5:oopm.

Town-wide office nomination papers (for the offices listed above) must be signed by at least fifty (50) registered voters in South Hadley. Candidates are advised to collect more than fifty signatures to ensure the requisite number of certified signatures.

Town meeting member nomination papers must be signed by at least ten (10) registered voters of the precinct in which the candidate resides. Voters in each precinct will elect eight town meeting members for three years, and elect other members as necessary to fill existing vacancies for a one and two year terms.

The South Hadley Town Election will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. All precincts vote at South Hadley High School, 153 Newton Street in South Hadley. There are no statewide elections in 2021.
